Rock the Bells, LA, Part One

Rock the fuckin’ Bells. URB certainly did. San Bernardino hosted this year’s Rock The Bells fesitval, with over 20 live performances, two stages, vendor fairs, insane heat, and 11 dollar beers. What more could a hip-hop fan ask for? I’ll tell you what more, FREE beer. But like the Stones said, you can’t always get what you want. Aside from the gross prices, this event was pretty enjoyable.

Rolled in around 11:00 AM, right about when the fest’ started, and 45 minutes later we finally got in. Apparently having Guerilla Union(Presenters of the festival) put you on a guest list is just not quite enough. Three lines and some confusing word-exchanges later, URB finally got into Rock the Bells. Of course, it couldn’t be quite this easy. My friend had to take his jacket off and LOSE …

Paid Dues Hits the Road

Who said Hip-Hop was dead? A3C Festival Day 2 shows how it’s supposed to be done.

We made it through the traffic and blocked post-tornado Atlanta streets to find a hip-hop fan’s oasis. I don’t want to sound too romantic, but there was some love in air. Love for the music, love of the culture, and in some cases just love of the hustle. Veteran MCs rubbed shoulders with fans and the up-and-coming in a real down-to-earth manner. I made it in late so I missed a lot of performances. Luckily, I caught The Juice Crew reunion and was instantly transported back to 7th grade. Man…I forgot that Roxanne Shante had so much swagger and Marley Marl’s catalog was so thick. Biz Markie turned it out also with proven old-school party rocking skills and comedic timing. Prehistoric Rap Supergroup

Coming from the Triassic period, the Dino-5 are trampling through to the Neolithic era and are gonna set a hella big dino-print for homosapiens ears to discover on Apr 1st. A collaboration featuring a legendary hip-hop producer and a few MCs will be released as ‘Baby Loves Hip Hop’ (on Baby Loves Music). With a mix of five unique dinosaurs, these fossil pals are comin’ at you on stampede gear with beatboxing skills, storytelling rhymes and, well, a spear.

Open the door. Get on the floor. Everyone do the dinosaur. Or, perhaps, the next rap supergroup. This one features Chali 2na, Wordsworth, Lady Bug Mecca, Scratch….and….wait for it…..wait for it…..you guess yet? Just wait a little longer….Prince Paul.
