De La Soul’s Plug 1 & Plug 2 present First Serve :: “Must B The Music” (Video)

Three is the magic number, but there’s plenty of magic in De La duo First Serve’s first video, “Must Be The Music.” The pair’s sound is easily reminiscent of early De La Soul, combining ’70s funk and disco with Golden Era hip-hop. And where is Maseo you might ask? We dunno, but French producers 2 & 4 (aka Chokolate & Khalid) do a bang-up job evoking Prince Paul’s brilliant style from 3 Feet High and Rising. Not much more to say except this is what party rap used to sound like.

RBMA Los Angeles Info Session w/ Performances by Ali Shaheed Muhammad (ATCQ) + Maseo (De La Soul)

We are inviting the musically inclined to join Red Bull Music Academy Session where they’ll learn more about what the Academy actually is, how to apply, and they’ll experience a lecture/discussion with Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest/The Ummah) and Maseo (De La Soul), which will be moderated by Cognito (Frolab) and will end with an audience provoked Q&A session.

J. Rawls Presents The Liquid Crystal Project – A Tribute To De La (MP3)

Ohio representative, J. Rawls is preparing the release of his first single for his beloved Liquid Crystal Project on November 1st. The first single is in preparation of Liquid Crystal Project 3 and the bonus album, Liquid Crystal Project 3.5, which will feature various singers and rappers.

The first single will be released on 7″ vinyl and digital formats and will feature two heavy tracks including “A Tribute To De La” and their rendition of De La Soul’s “Stakes Is High.”
