Jon Convex Exclusive Mix (Podcast)

Jon Convex
Exclusive Mix

Today’s entry in our podcast series comes from one of the most lauded producers at the moment, Jon Convex. Initially one of the two that make up the unquestionably fantastic outfit Instra:mental (Boddika being his counterpart), the duo splintered off to do their own thing within the past couple of years and have been making informative and transcendental dance music under their own solo aliases. With Convex, he’s been busy on labels such as previously affiliated imprints Naked Lunch and Nonplus, as well as Martyn’s burgeoning label 3024. In addition to his work on 3024 (includingLied To Be Loved feat. dBridge), he’ll be busy with his own imprint, simply titled Convex Industries. With his unique, shifted take on dancefloor grooves and rhythmic notions, we’re more than happy to present Jon Convex’s URB podcast to you all. Check out the mix and tracklist after the jump.

dBridge and Instra:mental present Autonomic – Fabriclive 50 (Review)

dBridge and Instra:mental present Autonomic

Fabriclive 50

Released by Fabric

Sometime in the last decade the creative energy behind drum & bass production seemed to drain away. Song design focused on drawing a reaction from the club crowd and the breakdown->build->heavy-heavy-drop cycle seemed to be the only game around. Thankfully, that is a game former Bad Company member dBridge and production duo Instra:mental refuse to play. Working under the banner of their Autonomic club night/podcast, the trio put together a refreshingly refined and engaging mix of outsider drum & bass for the 50th edition of the Fabriclive mix series. This is a drum & bass mix for the people who once loved the music but lost interest with the ascent of the club sound as well as for those who were turned away by the over-the-top aggressiveness and clownish tendencies. It’s a welcome return to the exciting balance of the hard and the soft at the heart of everything once great about drum & bass.
