Introducing Monareta: Electronica meets Columbia

Monareta is Andres Martinez and Camilo Sanabria, and “Picotero” is 2008’s best album you never heard of. The Colombian electronic duo’s U.S. debut is a fusion of styles that will get your head nodding and your feet moving. The album’s diversity is incredible. “Llama” combine reggae, dub and cumbia influences over a pulsing beat, while “Domingo Loving Style” sounds like something Aphex Twin or Daedelus could have made after getting trashed at a bar in Tijuana. If you want to scoop your friends on one of the year’s most underrated releases, pick up this album now.

Subtitle hangs up his mic?

L.A. MC Subtitle blacked out his MySpace page today and replaced his image with the Jolly Roger the left. He left a blog entry that says he's giving up the rap game.

Here's what the man wrote:

nothing witty here but quitting

yup I'm a quitter.
after 4 months of struggling like mad
and hoping a tour would save my sorry flesh,
said tour got cancelled, which means my money for the
next 2 months went with it. I hope whoever has my passport
is dead. I can't make a living in another country and my supergroup
randomizers is really a social club at this point. I hit up labels trying
to submit a DEMO for chrissakes! I've fallen pretty fall from grace, so it's
a wrap. thanks to all the fans …

Sundown (Lulu Mushi Remix)

Released by (Mush)

Few LA producers are as unpredictable as Daedelus: dude is able to turn roaring '20s tunes into certified jams. The broken techno/Brazilian beat bent of this single is no exception in the 'wtf'' department, especially once Lulu Mushi grabs hold of it and turns out a pounding, plodding power ballad of plucked guitars, rattling drum circles and waking dream vocals.
