Cubic Zirconia Tour Day Two: Chicago (Video)

Chicago was soulful, and that’s an understatement.

6 hours after leaving Cleveland, we arrived at Kool Hersh’s apartment in the windy city’s Logan Square. The vibe was excellent and our host was superb.

First on the itinerary was an in-store performance at the Silver Room in Wicker Park, a jewelry store, art gallery and performance space with an elevated DJ booth, fully equipped with Rane rotary mixer of course.

A land where coffee and cigarettes are staple items, but being a vegetarian for a couple weeks is completely normal. There are no borders in this land, especially when it comes to art and music.

Cubic Zirconia’s Record Release Party

Last night, Cubic Zirconia celebrated their “Fuck Work” record release at Santos Party House. The new quartet which includes the playfully sexy Tiombe Lockhart, best known for her vocals on tracks for the Hip Hop band PPP, and electro/funk musicians Nick Hook and Todd Weinstock, formerly of Men, Women, and Children, and Daud Sturdivant, filled Santos with an eclectic mix of music heads, hipsters, fashionistas, and dancers, for an also eclectic show. The evening featured live DJ sets by Afro-beat head Chico Mann, Mike the 2600 King, Kool Hersh, DJ Assault, and Stones Throw’s Dam Funk to bring that galactic funk. Head Automatica was the opening band that gave an explosive electro punk performance to amp the crowd. Expect more ridiculously crazy and fun nights when Head Automatica and Cubic …
