There’s really not much to say except the Godfather of Techno is back in Brooklyn for another special appearance, of course leading up to his appearance during the extended weekend of Detroit’s Movement festival. The legend that is Juan Atkins is back at Cameo Gallery, with support from TURRBOTAX resident and fellow Michigan native Contakt on the bill. Brooklyn is getting some serious midwest vibes tonight, and we at URB couldn’t be happier. Cameo is actually doing a ticket giveaway for this event, and it only takes a click or two to get entered into the drawing. Otherwise, check out some classic Juan Atkins vibes down below, as well as the flyer post-jump.
The venerable New York institution Percussion Lab has grown significantly over the past seven years; from an eclectic radio show to a full-fledged web-streaming party bonanza; previous guests include the likes of Scuba, SBTRKT, Dorian Concept, Daedelus, Krystal Klear and way too much more to add to this list. Needless to say, the Percussion Lab family is a collection of past and present NYC locals, along with previous guests that residents Braille (Praveen Sharma of Sepalcure) and Nooka Jones have maintained close ties to throughout the years. Judging by the artists compilation, there are plenty of vibes to behold. Cambio is a compilation that features exclusive tracks from previous Percussion Lab favorites such as Machinedrum, Lando Kal, and XI as well as new cuts from bubbling acts like Archie Pelago, Contakt and Enoe. Here’s what the PLAB guys had to say about this compilation and their contributions on it.
“Over the years, the bedroom producers and shy novices we championed in years past have become some of the most influential names in the world of electronic music. We’re offering this compilation of exclusive tracks as a way of continuing our mission to provide a home for producers and DJs to host their original music and mixes free of charge, and to be able to continue supporting our local community by booking the most forward thinking artists possible for our events. We hope you can help us keep doing all of this, for free, by buying some this complication full of amazing music by some our closest, oldest, and most talented friends. “
They’ve been gracious enough to share the first cut of the compilation, “Friends and Lovers” from Ghostly staple Shigeto. Check out the link to the track as well as the compilation link, post-jump.

It’s been a wild ride for TURRBOTAX residents Contakt and Mayster. While both producers have been part of running one of the most-lauded and eccentric monthly events in New York, they’ve also been hard at work making some serious bass-y business. Earlier in 2011, we were treated to Contakt’s debut release, Not Forgotten on the distinguished Local Action label. This time around on the all-encompassing Dutty Artz label, they bring us their newest output, Korak, which is a progressive stance on the sounds both Contakt and Mayster have been experiencing sonically on the floor as well as their own environments. Strong from start to finish, the EP is only a teaser of what’s to come from each producer. To celebrate its release –along with giving them an excuse to jam out some exclusive cuts– they’ve given URB a mix exclusive, thanks in big part to the lovely people at Dutty Artz. Peep the mix and tracklist down below.

Oh boy, oh joy. Some of the best artists out of the US meet one of the shining stars coming out of the UK. Local gifts Braille (Hotflush/Rush Hour), Contakt (Local Action), and Laurel Halo (Hippos In Tanks) join California’s hottest beat-making export Shlomo, along with the featured guest, URB favorite xxxy (Orca, Ten Thousand Yen). Needless to say it’s going be a HUGE night with sounds ranging from vibe-heavy beats to analogue love right down to some proper bass rhythm madness. The fun starts at 9PM and it won’t end until 4AM. Check out links for tickets (along with set-times) after the jump.
