New Jay-Z and Tribe Called Quest Docs In The Works (Video)

Sadly, it’s not one film covering both acts at once, but two documentaries about hip-hop legends Jay-Z and A Tribe Called Quest are coming our way. The Jay-Z film, entitled NY-Z is a love letter to the city Jay refers to as his muse. It captures the September 11, 2009 benefit concert at Madison Square Garden, the same hallowed venue where Jay shot his last concert flick, 2004’s Fade To Black. And much like that previous film, the concert is chocked full of special guests, including Kanye West, Rihanna, Mary J. Blige, Beyonce, Diddy, John Mayer and Pharrell.

Pharrell is also slated to appear in the as yet  untitled documentary by actor Michael Rappaport celebrating the legacy of A Tribe Called Quest. News of the film surfaced on The Neptunes website yesterday, reporting:

Common Returning To Form On Next Album? (Video)

He drops the hint near the end of the video after yapping about ‘Ye. I guess you could say I’m cautiously optimistic about this news since I don’t want to fall for the okee-doke. Then again with No I.D., Kanye and Twilite Tone on the boards I shouldn’t have to worry about it sounding like UMC 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Common – “Next Time” (MP3)

An unreleased song from the Finding Forever sessions popped up on the innanet courtesy of 2dopeboyz. Excuse me for getting on my high horse but this throwaway, recycled lyrics and all, sounds better than pretty much anything from UMC. Damnit, I did a good job of wiping that album’s existence out of my memory until now. Ah well, grab the link below. Many thanks go out to Kevin Nottingham for pointing me in the right direction.

Elite – The Groundwork (Artwork/Tracklisting) (Video)

My man Alex sent me this.  Elite, the producer behind J.Cole’s Heartache, Jadakiss and Styles P’s Shootouts, Joe Budden’s Fight Muzik, and many more is now coming with his own mixtape titled The Groundwork, due out early January.  The mixtape will feature exclusive music from J.Cole and DMX, as well the instrumentals to his more well known records.  Below is a link to the trailer as well as the backcover and tracklisting to the tape.

Bilal “High & Dry” Radiohead Cover “listen before you leave” (Video)

Okay, 1st off, I didn’t take the photo at the bottom so not trying to claim I did it was on google. And if anybody saw the links I posted recently knows I’m a lil’ overwhelmed the last 24 hours in terms of what to put up & what is coming soon. Let’s just get this established 1st off, Bilal’s easily one of the best male vocalists I’ve ever seen. I saw Common’s performance on jimmy kimmel live for the finding forever LP & Universal Mind Control. He goes hard in the paint. Can we all agree on that?
