Com Truise – Galactic Melt (Review)

Com Truise

Galactic Melt

Released by Ghostly International

Com Truise is one of the many pseudonyms of New Jersey admitted synth obsessive designer/musician Seth Haley, the maker of an experimental and bottom heavy style he calls “mid-fi synth-wave, slow-motion funk”. Last year’s well-received Cyanide Sisters EP, included remixes for artists like Twin Shadow, Neon Indian and Daft Punk, but Truise’s debut full-length, Galactic Melt, is entering our varied soundscape this summer. Hi silly spoonerised moniker could’ve suggested an album title like "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy", but his music ...

DJ Harvey ‘Locussolus’ Interview

The word legend gets tossed around too easily in the world of dance music. But when it comes to DJ Harvey, the term fits. Starting his DJing career in the early late-80s by bringing the disco-tinged sound of NYC house (or “garage” if you prefer) to London clubs, most notably the massive Ministry of Sound, Harvey is a true innovator of the genre.

URB caught up with Harvey while on his first global DJ tour following a decade in visa purgatory. …MORE

Top 10 Movement-Detroit Acts You Haven’t Likely Heard

homepage photo by Bryan Mitchell

For the 12th year in a row, the world’s dance music disciples will descend on downtown Detroit over Memorial Day weekend for America’s largest techno-centric dance music event. Long gone are the years of in-fighting and dollar drama that once plagued this unlikely dance music success story. What’s left is the music, performed by over 70 top-shelf local and international acts.

What’s most impressive is how after 12 years, Movement continues to tap new and creative sounds and talent that fit perfectly within the historic mandate of the city that invented techno. And how the festival has become a showcase for electronic musc talent with an ability to draw crowds far greater than the average underground clubnight America. With that in mind, we selected a few of our favorite performers whose names won’t appear in much Movement press, but are certain to rock Hart Plaza this weekend. …MORE

Com Truise – Cathode Girls (MP3)

[download]

Com Truise is New Jersey designer/musician Seth Haley. His songs tap classic sci-fi and proto-electro in a way that is distinctly early eighties in scope, but they’re also remarkably psychedelic and ominous as if they were surrounded by dark matter. After his well-received Cyanide Sisters EP, the recently released Fairlight single, a grip of remixes for artists like Twin Shadow, Neon Indian, Daft Punk, and a few floating MP3s, Truise’s first LP, Galactic Melt, will finally enter our chambers in July. He will be debuting his live show on his first national tour this summer w/ Phantogram and Glitch Mob as well.

01. Terminal
02. VHS Sex
03. Cathode Girls
