Synths of Resistance! : Argentina’s Digital Cumbia

Argentina's capital city of Buenos Aires is a thriving explosion of digital cumbia, combining a rural tradition with first world production tendencies.

Introducing Monareta: Electronica meets Columbia

Monareta is Andres Martinez and Camilo Sanabria, and “Picotero” is 2008’s best album you never heard of. The Colombian electronic duo’s U.S. debut is a fusion of styles that will get your head nodding and your feet moving. The album’s diversity is incredible. “Llama” combine reggae, dub and cumbia influences over a pulsing beat, while “Domingo Loving Style” sounds like something Aphex Twin or Daedelus could have made after getting trashed at a bar in Tijuana. If you want to scoop your friends on one of the year’s most underrated releases, pick up this album now.

This guy had filthy hands…motor oil deeply sunk into his fingernails and he was hovering over a plate of eggs, hashbrowns, a ham steak and blueberry muffin with butter smeared inside of it. He started talking to us about the government and the general deception and disillusionment Amercians reside in… he was one of the smartest people I've met in a …
