Rapping With Paul White

Released by One-Handed Music

Part hip-hop, part electrofunk and part space-jazz, UK producer Paul White’s new record Rapping With Paul White, is a genre-bending mixture of geographically diverse sounds. Featuring Detroit’s heavy-hitter Guilty Simpson of Stones Throw and Random Axe fame on the single “Trust” as well as the Motor City rapper Danny Brown on “One of Life’s Pleasures”, Paul White cooks up some delectable selections for our audible consumption—from straightforward hip-hop bangers, to more methodical and introspective instrumental tracks. In addition to the already mentioned stellar collaborations, there are some intelligently composed tracks ...

Twin Shadow and Hooray For Earth, “A Place We Like” (MP3)

I was actually just having a long IM about Twin Shadow last night, and I was thinking about Hooray For Earth because they have a couple of ads spread around the internets. The fruits of their labor can be listened to below and according to the press release, “Rough Trade just put out a Twin Shadow record with a bonus disc and it has this track on it” so go get it there! Twin Shadow + Hooray For Earth = Best buds <3 <3 <3

Broken Bells @ The Wiltern 10/06/10 (Review)

The quality of their artistry is undeniable, and their small yet profound body of work gives them accessibility not true for bands with much larger and more thorough discographies. Broken Bells’ novelty stems primarily from their imaginative instrumentation and genre-pushing collaborative work in which, in addition to the group …

LMNO & Kev Brown

Selective Hearing Part 2

Released by Up Above Records

Long Beach native James Kelly and DC-based Kevin Brown have teamed up once again under their pseudonyms LMNO and Kev Brown, respectively, in an appropriate and highly anticipated return to their highly original and collaborative brainchild (and homage to) James Brown. Their original work was unleashed onto the world in 2008’s well-received and inventive Selective Hearing, a soulful serving of stylized beats and eloquent rhymes. With quality cuts like “The Beat Tape” and “The Cause,” James Brown threw down a debut of impressive caliber that established both LMNO and ...
