Mix of the Year Competition Heats Up :: Coldcut + The Orb + DJ Food (MP3)

Last week, we claimed (consciously prematurely) that DJ Shadow’s All Basses Covered mix was already the top contender for 2013 mix of the year. While they probably didn’t see our subtle challenge, Coldcut have quickly responded with their own entry to the competition with The Return Trip, a reuniting with fellow veteran UK travelers The Orb, with whom they made their infamous Kiss FM Xmas Mix in 1991. Recorded live by Coldcut and The Orb (then edited by DJ Food) the result is a 133 minute, 68 song super-mix that defies categorization, with songs from Actress to Iggy Pop, Sun Ra to Hank William Jr.
