Caural returns to say goodbye, also as Boy King Islands (MP3)

When last heard from, Chicago/New York beat maker was having a laugh while paying homage to the spirit of hip hop with the chopped up “yo” sampling mayhem of “Sorry, Underground Hip Hop Happened Ten Years Ago (For Regan)” and it seems that actually was just about the last to be heard from Caural.

Dutch label Eat Concrete will release “Die Before You Die” featuring that track and three others April 15 on 10” and digitally. The release represents the last batch of songs Zak Mastoon finished as Caural but far from leftovers, these are polished representations of his distinct choppy beats.

Sorry, Underground Hip Hop Happened Ten Years Ago

Borrowing a title from his frequent tour partner Busdriver’s t-shirt, the multi-talented Caural delivers a novel little beat built from pieces of back in the day.

“Sorry, Underground Hip Hop Happened Ten Years Ago (for Regan)” is put together from the 450 or so samples of rappers saying “yo” Caural grabbed while revisiting his CD collection.

You can hear the collage at Caural’s MySpace, or download it here. Later this year it’ll be on wax as a part of Get Your Hand Out of My Pocket Vol. 5.

Cold Hands (Featuring Hrishikesh Hirway)

Released by Mush

As the one guy in the One AM Radio, Hrishikesh Hirway proved to be the perfect foil for clicks, cuts and crackly beats on the remix disc On the Shore of the Wide World. He works with Caural again here, a psychedelic sinkhole of Dabrye-esque beats sent through a delicates-only spin cycle.
