As we roll into Bisco Week 2010, Girl Talk reflects on his 2007 Bisco gig, the differences between rocking a laptop in the US and Europe, Australia’s Bruce Springsteen, and why getting booed and — even mooned — by French campers isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Plus, notes on his unique Lars Von Trier-ish remix challenge, bands he’s looking forward to hearing at CBIX and a re-mastered vintage clip of that killer Girl Talk set at BISC007…
With two hours ’til the tourbus arrives, the DBs share an oral history punctuated by a stolen 8-track cassette recorder, seed money from a pool shark, their first drummer leaving the band for med school, and, somewhere along the way, sartori: Marc: “One hippy dude followed us round –“ ‘Davey Jones’ recalls Jon – “for ten shows, and we were like, alright we got it, this is us: Disco Biscuits, ten-show tour [with] one hippy dude doing the whole thing, that was the start of it; that was the moment I knew we could have 40 hippie dudes, or 60 modern hippy dudes, or 500 modern hippy dudes coming ’round.”

One of America’s most underrated (and I like it that way) festivals is quietly approaching the decade mark, which was NOT an easy thing, make no mistake about it…but the mighty Camp Bisco, with it’s wacky color wars and exquisitely muddy DJ tent (which they promise will be high and dry in 2KX, and I’ll believe THAT when I see it, tho’ I don’t care either way, so long as it stays funky) is BACK ON, and they’ve got a brilliant and affordable payment option. I’ll be loading up ‘09 festival highlights from SXSW through Coachie through Bisco and APW to my beloved Bonnaroo in the coming weeks, and for now, here are three stone-cold classic moments from Biscos past, featuring beautiful hula-hoopers (altruism lives!), Lyrics Born, STS9, a legendary Girl Talk set and of course, the mighty Disco Biscuits. If you’ve never been to Bisco, espesh if you’re near NY/NJ/CT/PA, I daresay the pre-sale discount tickets they’re offering is one of the most ridiculous summer festival bargains on the planet.
