Sage Francis and Buck 65 have been brosefs since Sage called Buck out of the blue in 1998. The two have since shared buses, hotel rooms, planes and apparently restrooms while on tour. They’ve shared one touching moment after the next, like the night in Glasgow when they walked in on their seedy hotel clerk spanking it whilst watching porn. And now their relationship has taken on a new dimension with Sage’s Strange Famous Records releasing Buck’s The Situation.
URB: You guys have sort of similar backgrounds. What led to your kinship?
SAGE: Well, we were really isolated. And every time I listen to old Buck 65 songs I hear a lot of similarities between what he was talking about and what I was talking about and just the way he processed everything.
BUCK: That’s exactly the same way that I …
Here's what Buck told is in Feb, and then the tracklisting for dude's new album:
“The title of the album is Situation and there is a pretty deep meaning behind that. The whole album was inspired by the all the events of 50 years ago, exactly fifty …
Hollywood, Calif., Jun 15, 2007 – I walked into the Music Box when Sage Francis’s opener and long-time friend Buck 65 was begging the crowd to cum on his face.Apparently not to many in my proximity have heard this request before.Context unknown, I moved toward the stage. From afar, I thought the Nova Scotia native was wearing an awkward white scarf.Turns out it was a neck brace.I didn’t question dude’s somewhat-unsettling demand, so why ponder if he’s defying doctor’s orders?I reached the partition separating the sick fuck from his fans as he broke into “Roses and Bluejays.”
Epitaph has issued a making the video clip for Sage Francis' new Buck 65 penned single, “Got Up This Morning.” The video features the pair, along with guests Slug and Brother Ali, doing their best Dogs Playing Poker routine. This means that if a bomb had goen off on set, the entire indie hip-hop community would cease to exist. Fortunately, this did not happen.
Canadian cowboy and generally weird rhyme slanger, Buck 65 is about to have a big 2007. In addition to providing all the music to Scratch director Doug Pray's Big Rig (which rules on all levels and will be premiering at SXSW) and the French film l'Histoire de Richard O, Buck is readying his first full-length in some time. Here he speaks (at great length) about the source of inspiration for the new album, one that he promises will be surprisingly hip-hop to some people. It's entirely produced by Scratch Bastid, and assuming everything goes according to plan, it'll hit record stores this summer.
