INPUT Builds The Bridge Between New York and Berlin – TOMORROW (Video)

Tomorrow night is Thursday night, which means INPUT is back for another round of bass-driven hijinx at Output. This time around, it’s taking a cue from the other nights of the week, as with many artists making their way towards Detroit for Movement Festival, a couple of excellent Berlin-based producers are making a special stop for a Thursday night affair at the venue. Taking over will be Berghain and Panorama Bar residents (respectively) Marcel Dettmann (MDR, Ostgut Ton) and Steffi (Dolly, Ostgut Ton) as the international headliners, with local don Anthony Parasole (The Corner) keeping the dark-room vibes at its apex all night onward. Tickets are still on sale and it would be unwise to miss a night like this, especially since it’s on a Thursday. Consider this a way to lighten the weekend load — by that I mean, one less party to go to during Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It’s going to be a good, old-fashioned house/techno rager at INPUT, best not miss it. Preview and flyer are post-jump.

Juan Atkins Returns To Brooklyn, Cameo Gallery – TONIGHT (MP3)

There’s really not much to say except the Godfather of Techno is back in Brooklyn for another special appearance, of course leading up to his appearance during the extended weekend of Detroit’s Movement festival. The legend that is Juan Atkins is back at Cameo Gallery, with support from TURRBOTAX resident and fellow Michigan native Contakt on the bill. Brooklyn is getting some serious midwest vibes tonight, and we at URB couldn’t be happier. Cameo is actually doing a ticket giveaway for this event, and it only takes a click or two to get entered into the drawing. Otherwise, check out some classic Juan Atkins vibes down below, as well as the flyer post-jump.

URB Spotlight: Six of New York City’s Best Studio Engineers [Exclusive Interview]

To quote my homie Chico Mann, “Sound Is Everything” and, in my opinion, has everything to do with music. It’s been years since I’ve listened to music through an iPod, preferring to feel the pulse of the beat whether speaker freaking or writhing in my seat in front of a pair of bottom heavy monitors.

And while I could go on for a hot minute expressing my disdain for Steve Jobs and the decline of quality sound leading to the popularity of a compressed mess, I’d rather tout the praises of URB’s six best engineers in New York City. These are the people who pronounce the bounce. And their work graces the grooves of the world’s best records, from Madonna to A-Trak, Busta Rhymes to Oakenfold and tons in-between. These engineers have devoted their time to help up-and-coming producers achieve new levels of success. And as home based and portable production techniques try to rule the music scene — with more and more music producers doing everything from mixing and mastering all by themselves — I offer you a peek inside the minds of these forward thinking sonic soldiers…
