When I was like 6 I would always get bible studies and a lot of the times I was incredibly fascinated with the story of how the world was going to end. Fire in the sky, the land splitting up into jagged mountains where people awaited their judgement and the world was covered with lava where people were being pushed into with Satan who by this point was tied up in chains. More or less I was fascinated with how supposedly creatures would be flying in the sky and if the end of the world is really as twisted as I think it is then they would probably be singing this song over and over again until all of us get sorted into salvation or damnation.
Since the dawn of time, the music industry has bred their pop stars young. Britney Spears sold 20 million copies worldwide at the ripe age of 19, NSync began to headline tours in Europe as arguably post-pubescent 17 year-olds, and the late Aaliyah recorded the celebrated Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number with a mere 14 years under her belt. With all this being somewhat common knowledge (thanks, WikiLeaks), it should’ve come to no surprise to me that Ciara is only 25. But when you take a gander at Ciara’s impressive career stats— Over 7 million records sold worldwide, Grammy nominations, and a consistently strong presence on the charts—it’s worth stating that the singer wasn’t born into the entertainment business like some of her contemporaries.

When word leaked earlier this year that UK dubstep king Rusko was producing tracks for the next Britney Spears album, there was a quiet but sweeping understanding that the growing underground movement in EDM would soon explode onto the mainstream in a way that would render it inescapable. Some were apprehensive about the union, while others trusted that if anyone could help resurrect Brit, a dose of legitimate dubstep from Rusko just might be the key. Either way, supporters and naysayers alike almost didn’t have a chance to find out after an unfortunate accident this week.
