Random Axe, Random Axe (Review)

Random Axe

Random Axe

Released by Duck Down Music

Detroit's hip-hop pulse has been strong since the days of The Hip-Hop Shop. And yeah Brooklyn ranks alongside Queens & The Bronx as breeding grounds for some of hip-hop's elite. Random Axe is two parts 313 and one part BKNY, a highly combustible compound. Black Milk, Guilty Simpson & Sean Price have that triple threat chemistry a la Jason Terry, Tyson Chandler & Dirk Nowitzki. Any album that makes you want to cop the instrumental version gives it legs and Milk has clearly emerged as one of the top producers in the game.

Unsound NYC: Daníel Bjarnason Speaks About “Music For Solaris” (MP3)

Bjarnason gives us the low-down on the opening event for Unsound NYC.

Icelandic compositional auteur Daníel Bjarnason always has an eye for the subtle, succinct, and shocking. As it is evident of his work previously with Sinfonietta Cracovia (especially during Unsound Festival 2010 in Krakow), the composer pushes boundaries sonically by creating an alluding atmosphere that mangles emotions and evokes a rich experience to anyone who comes across his performances. Bjarnason spoke with URB briefly about his upcoming performance at Alice Tully Hall for Unsound Festival New York’s 2011 opening night. Check out the interview, along with an exclusive MP3 after the jump.

Unsound Festival New York 2011 Announced

Once again, Krakow meets New York.

It’s been finally announced that the New York edition of Krakow’s most adventurous and ambitious festival will return in early April. Unsound Festival New York 2011 will feature artists from all parts of the experimental and electronic spectrum; with previous Krakow performers making their NYC debuts (Lustmord, Alan Howarth) as well as an enigmatic lineup that will highlight the club nights at the end of the week (featuring Lone, Appleblim, Dorian Concept, Kink, Octave One, etc.) With more acts being announced in the coming weeks, people should start preparing for April now; because once you start with this festival, you’ll never stop. URB Premiere :: Saadi – Clotheslines (MP3)

The Syria-born and Brooklyn-based Saadi dabbles in everything from electro pop to post-punk, spilling into a sound all her own. She cites Brian Eno as a key influence and carries a style reminiscent of Santigold, as evidenced by the other-worldly flair of “Clotheslines.” Saadi’s Clotheslines EP, which features remix work from the likes of Lemonade, Douster, Daniel Haakman, Victor Rice and Lazy Flow, is out now via Dither Down. Those in NYC can catch a special release party tomorrow at Ella featuring performances from Saadi, Bajah of the Dry Eye Crew, and DJs Chief Boima and Uproot Andy.

OMD, History Of Modern (Review)

OMD

History Of Modern

Released by 100%/Bright Antenna

24 years in the wilderness is a long time. In the music industry, it's the equivalent of eternity squared. Casual fans of OMD know very little of the full ensemble's last set, The Pacific Age (1986); in fact it would be a massive prevarication for many to pretend that without awkward sock-hopping to the Pretty-In-Pink-immortalized "If You Leave" (note well, if you dress like a throwback Jon Cryer in 2010, please leave your address in the comment section and I promise someone will pummel you into submission in 48 ...
