Icelandic compositional auteur Daníel Bjarnason always has an eye for the subtle, succinct, and shocking. As it is evident of his work previously with Sinfonietta Cracovia (especially during Unsound Festival 2010 in Krakow), the composer pushes boundaries sonically by creating an alluding atmosphere that mangles emotions and evokes a rich experience to anyone who comes across his performances. Bjarnason spoke with URB briefly about his upcoming performance at Alice Tully Hall for Unsound Festival New York’s 2011 opening night. Check out the interview, along with an exclusive MP3 after the jump.
It’s been finally announced that the New York edition of Krakow’s most adventurous and ambitious festival will return in early April. Unsound Festival New York 2011 will feature artists from all parts of the experimental and electronic spectrum; with previous Krakow performers making their NYC debuts (Lustmord, Alan Howarth) as well as an enigmatic lineup that will highlight the club nights at the end of the week (featuring Lone, Appleblim, Dorian Concept, Kink, Octave One, etc.) With more acts being announced in the coming weeks, people should start preparing for April now; because once you start with this festival, you’ll never stop. The Syria-born and Brooklyn-based Saadi dabbles in everything from electro pop to post-punk, spilling into a sound all her own. She cites Brian Eno as a key influence and carries a style reminiscent of Santigold, as evidenced by the other-worldly flair of “Clotheslines.” Saadi’s Clotheslines EP, which features remix work from the likes of Lemonade, Douster, Daniel Haakman, Victor Rice and Lazy Flow, is out now via Dither Down. Those in NYC can catch a special release party tomorrow at Ella featuring performances from Saadi, Bajah of the Dry Eye Crew, and DJs Chief Boima and Uproot Andy.
