STS9 @ House of Blues Sunset 08/11/11 (Live Review)

Having listened to STS9’s albums multiple times, working through their dense instrumentation and well-crafted harmonies on several occasions, this still proved to be very little in preparing me for their live performance. Showcasing their funk, electro, and hip-hop style through their diverse and contagious melodies, STS9 (Sound Tribe Sector 9) gave one impressive and memorable performance at the House of Blues Sunset last Thursday. Starting off their set with “Be Nice,” the live session started at an already elevated level, coupled with the anticipation by fans, all was equally matched by the collective energies of the Hollywood venue. You wouldn't believe Breakestra has resurrected from a 4-year hiatus since 2005 because the funky soul melodies from their current album Dusk Till Dawn is oozing with funk from beginning to end.

Found Angles

Tomorrow night is a big night for artist Codak; his first solo show in Los Angeles will be opening at the Archrival Boutique. Titled ‘Found Angles,’ Codak takes us on a journey through various mediums with his mind-blowing yet meticulous skills in graffiti, mixed media, and graphic design this is one show you don’t want to miss. Music will be provided by tRUEradio MHZ and fifty-limited edition three-color silkscreen signed and numbered prints will be for sale. If you can’t make the ‘Found Angles’ show be sure to catch Codak’s self-portrait that is currently on the nation-wide Scion Art Installation 5 tour (see dates below).

Wale x TVotR Collab Update

Pfork reports:

Wale and Sitek have completed two tracks together. Antibalas alums Stuart Bogie and Todd Simon play horns on the tracks, while Breakestra’s Dave Chegwidden plays congos. Rock star poet Saul Williams May handle the hook on one, and TVOTR frontman Tunde Adebimpe May sing on the other. Tre, frontman for the go-go band UCB (also doing some work with Sitek, according to Wale’s manager) helped with melodies and horn arrangements.
