WTF is back with something that we hope that you didn’t miss on release day this week.

Being patient certainly paid off for those people awaiting, UK based producer, Stuart Howard aka Lapalux, to drop his debut LP, Nostalchic, on widely praised label Brainfeeder.  Brainfeeder has garnered much respect in the music community as home to releases from such acts as Flying Lotus, Thundercat, and The Gaslamp Killer and has strengthened it’s label with its recent signing of Lapalux.

R.I.P. :: Brainfeeder Artist Austin Peralta

URB was deeply saddened over the weekend to learn that 22-year old Brainfeeder recording artist Austin Peralta, son of skateboarding legend and award-winning documentarian Stacey Peralta, passed away on Thanksgiving Day. The cause of his death is still unknown.

Peralta was a piano prodigy, releasing his first jazz album at the age of 16. He soon joined the ranks of Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label, releasing the album Endless Planets in 2011. He also appeared on records by label mates Flylo and Thundercat.

SXSW Recap: Exploded Drawing Boat Party (MP3)

No matter how hull-shattering the sawtooth, there’s nothing quite like actual waves. On Tuesday two titans of the booming Austin beat scene, Exploded Drawing and (in)Sect Records, took to Lake Austin in a bi-level riverboat for a four hour tour fueled by organic juice cocktails (pineapple-jalapeno margaritas!) and two rooms of music featuring locals holding their own next to notable guests from Brainfeeder, Stones Throw, and Mush.

URB’s Top 5 Must-See Acts for SXSW 2012 (Video)

Five Acts We Won't Be Missing 

The URB contingent has landed in Austin and while our list of acts to see and parties to visit this year is seemingly infinite, we put our heads together to decide on a list of 5 acts that we’re especially looking forward to catching.

TNGHT – It had to happen sometime; heavyweight badman and WARP impresario Hudson Mohawke is set to debut his collaboration with Lunice, one of Montreal’s most prolific producers. Playing later in the week, we at URB honestly don’t know how to handle the excitement; but we know it’ll involve some booming drops and unreleased dubs. In other words, it has to happen ASAP. — MS
