Riot At Tyler the Creator Album Signing

We figured we’d passed peak Odd Future fever this past Tuesday when Tyler the Creator dropped his album, Goblin, performed a secret show, and got himself arrested. Turns out nobody told the kids in Boston that OFWGKTA is totally 72 hours ago.

An album signing session at Newbury Comics got out of hand when hundreds of fans showed up to meet everyone’s favorite not-horrorcore rapper, unaware that they were supposed to pick up wristbands several hours earlier in order to meet the sudden superstar. Police were called in, and Tyler had to be escorted out the back, where fans rushed the rapper. In the meleé, a cop slipped and hurt his back. Best part is WHDH News Boston referring to the incident as a “rap riot.”

Moe Pope – Life After God (Review)

Moe Pope

Life After God

Released by Brick Records

Although Moe Pope is certainly not a new name in the underground hip-hop world, it seems that only recently is the Boston-bred emcee beginning to get a bit of the attention he deserves. Blame it on shaky record deals. Blame it on under-funded marketing campaigns. Blame it on anything but Moe Pope and his skills as an emcee. Life After God is quite simply another album in Moe’s catalogue that wholly devastates just about 90 percent of Moe’s contemporaries.

URB Exclusive: Jinx – Futurama (MP3)

Last Month, URB.com hosted it’s official Next 100 Showcase down in Austin, Texas where we debuted a number of DOPE new artists.

Among them, was a fresh, young, charismatic rapper known as JINX, reppin’ Seattle by way of Boston. It was his standout rooftop performance that afternoon in Austin that landed him here, in the prestigious URB Blog, and as always you heard it here first.

So, I’ll save the thousand words for something more in depth down the road, but in the meantime if you want to hear some fresh spits, hit the jump for the download.

Statik Selektah – Shade45 Guru Tribute Mix

From 2dopeboyz:

Live on Statik’s ShowOff Radio show, last night on Shade45.

i know alot of DJs have been doing Guru tributes… which is dope, but this is 2 hours of music… from 1988, thru his history including Jazzmattazz Vol 1-3, to the end of the Gangstarr days. I covered what i feel was truly Gurus greatest work. this includes unreleased music, the b-sides, remixes, etc. i also had Big Shug, Doo-Wop, Freddie Foxx, Consequence, and Chubby Chub call in and leave some Guru Memories. he was an icon to me, as well as a friend, and i definitely wouldn’t be who i am without the presence of Gangstarr’s music in my life growing up.
