Make a list of rappers you’d most likely find stepping up to the decks, and DOOM isn’t even close to the top of the list. Heck, dude allegedly doesn’t even show up to his own live shows half the time. But leave it to Boiler Room to get the masked villain to deliver an hour of like-minded hip-hop as part of the Lex Records BR showcase celebrating the upcoming JJ DOOM collaboration with DOOM and Jneiro Jarel. The nightalso featured Jarel, Boom Bip and Buddy Peace, whose DJ sets we are seriously looking forward to. No video of DOOM as of yet, but you can at least enjoy the audio of Tuesday night’s special session.
This new remix from Boom Bip might sound like some sort of tween nightmare. But it’s in fact a remix for the theme to OMG BFF LOL, an animated project by artist Charlie White currently showing at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum. Which in a way makes it cool. But it still has that jokey vibe ala Tiga’s “Shoes,” which will evidentally be all the rage this year.
Chromeo’s Dave One has issued a remark:
“This is kind of funny… Our photographer Matt Barnes got his hands on a Delorean, suggested we pose with it and we ran with the idea, not knowing that Neon Neon had done the same thing before (sorry fellas)! We’re obviously not going to use this shot…it’ll probably just stay in the myspace archives, and will promptly be replaced by a new press photo of me wearing no socks.”
Well this was bound to happen eventually. What with their only being about a million ’80s cultural signifiers for various retro-ists musicians to use in their press pics. We knew it was gonna go sour when we got the flier for an LA party featuring Chromeo. The image features the beloved duo of Dave 1 and P-Thugg seated on the hood …
URB caught exclusive footage of Boom Bip's new three-man live performance outdoors at the Los Angeles Arboritum as part of the annual Terrabyte event. The set was filled with neon noise, giant balloons and a suprising cover version of Joe Jackson.
