Music is an auditory experience, but sometimes it takes a photo to truly capture a great show. That’s why URB trained our lens all over the country in 2011, capturing the artists and fans who make an event more than the sum of the music played. From Berlin to Bonnaroo, from ravers to Rock The Bells, here’s our hundred favorite photos that serve as a silent playlist capturing the past year.

“I’m glad I wore my vest”, quipped lead singer Matt Berninger, who, not even one song into the set looked lobster-baked, his wardrobe-related comment instantly prompting a girl in the crowd (in a mild role-reversal of sorts) to implore him to “Take it off!” — “It’s painted on…even the pants” he joked, creating an absurd visual for my already goofy mind-state to consider, while one iron-lunged dude yelled, with a fan’s true zeal: “You look great!” catching Matt off-guard and, well, warming him, as clearly manifested by the way he expressed thanks, raising his arm and pointing, almost involuntarily…everybody likes to be told they look nice, even lead singers…At times this brother’s hang-dog look — espesh during the …

Here’s a special post for people who a) still have a job, b) still have the money to take vacations, and c) need to request work off very very very early. Ultra Music Festival have announced the 2011 dates, March 25, 26 & 27, adding a third day to the stark raving madness that has gone down in Miami for the past 12 years. Meanwhile, June 9-12, 2011 marks the tenth anniversary of jam gathering turned rock mega-fest Bonnaroo in Tennessee. It’s a little early to start packing, hell, it’s a little early to buy tickets, but mark you calendars either way. And start doing some sit-ups so you can look sweet when you take your shirt off in the boiling Miami and/or Tennessee heat.
