In similar fashion as fellow Brown Bag AllStar mate Audible Doctor, Soul Khan went to Bonnaroo Festival this year to perform with three other bands, in which none of them have met each other before. Soul Khan, Jeni Suk, Knower and Black Violin went to the festival and became Soopergroop. Until their meeting at the rehearsal trailer four days prior to their 60 minute show, they have never met one another. The outcome you see above is a beautiful thing: Music is a beautiful thing.
And you can watch their journey from day one to the amazing performance here.
Bonnaroo 2012 did not follow the DJ craze like most fest this year are doing, having only one stage dedicated to dubstep, house, trance, etc… But they did book a few stellar acts to keep the Bonnaroovians (yes, the word exist) satisfied. Skrillex delivered his set on what looked like an outdated space ship from a ’70s Buck Rogers flick. Me personally, I would have gone Klingon Vessel.
A poster has popped up online with the alleged line-up for Bonnaroo. And while we’re used to fake line-ups trolling the internet, the organization has decided to “neither confirm or deny” the line-up that included Prince, Radiohead, Phish and The Red Hot Chili Peppers as headliners, which would make them look like real assholes if in fact these artists don’t appear.
That said, there seems to be some distinct differences between the art direction of the alleged poster and the current website, which makes as go “hrmmmm.”
Music is an auditory experience, but sometimes it takes a photo to truly capture a great show. That’s why URB trained our lens all over the country in 2011, capturing the artists and fans who make an event more than the sum of the music played. From Berlin to Bonnaroo, from ravers to Rock The Bells, here’s our hundred favorite photos that serve as a silent playlist capturing the past year.
