The LAST @a3c article: 18 top acts that smashed and The Most Honorable Mentions..EVER (Video & MP3)

A3C was a weekend filled with reunions, representing, and rapping. Crews rapping acts like Jon Connor with their “ya knooooow!” chants and acts like the LEP Bogus Boys from Chicago with their crazy showcase at Fadia Kader’s Perfect Attendance Stage.

If you weren’t there to rock the mic, you may have been in attendance just checking out some dope music. Moving through the crowd handling biz like SMKA or just chilling like Kyle Lucas of Vonnegutt. Artists flew from all over the country to make noise and shake hands. Acts like Prime Element did the same as MC Pig Pen and Pat Maine last year by driving from Colorado to make it happen for themselves in the sake of hip hop. Out of 200 plus performances, …

A Conversation with Big L’s Brother Pt. 2

Donald Phinazee Speaks On The Legacy of Lamont Coleman

Last week we were able to fill in some of the missing pages in the story of Big L’s life. In part two of my interview, I talk with Don and Gustavo Guerra (CEO of Distrolord Entertainment) about the new album. Don and I also get a chance to dissect some of L’s best music, as well as get the latest update on the upcoming biographical documentary in the works.

So this new album — is it going to have new material, or will it be mostly stuff we’ve heard before over new production?

2010 Hip Hop Karaoke Championships (NYC) (Video)

I was lucky to be in the crowd to witness the 2010 Hip Hop Karaoke Championships.  It was a great competition with 12 contestants and celebrity judges Peter Rosenberg, Buckshot and the legendary Big Daddy Kane.  Everyone put up a good fight but at the end, Jessica from Queens, NY won the big prize.

For the longest time, I’ve been hearing about hip hop karaoke but after seeing what it was all about, I can see why people get into it.  Their next big event is in March when they do a tribute show for Biggie.  Make sure to follow them on twitter and go to that event.

Hip Hop Karaoke Championship 2010

Imitation is the highest form of flattery, even if you're mimicking lyrics about Rosa Parks

The show this Friday night at New York’s Irving Plaza will be live. Maybe not live in the sense where real instruments will be played, but live as in on stage and in your face. Performers from all across the country (even Canada) will have their one chance, their one mic, a live DJ spinning all original instrumentals and an amazing crowd to have the opportunity to flatter their favorite rappers. It’s time for the 5th annual Hip Hop Karaoke Championships. The remaining 12 finalists have been chosen and the tracks, which range from Big Daddy Kane (who will be at the event as one of the judges) to Madvillian/MF Doom to Juvenile, are in place for the livest performer to win the grand prize of $1,000 and title of Hip Hop Karaoke Champion.

Along with Big Daddy Kane will be …
