STREAM :: Lightning In Your Ear Compilation (MP3)

Those hyper-creative kids over at The Do Lab are throwing their annual Lightning In A Bottle festival this weekend in the remotes reaches of Orange County. To get you warmed up, they’ve released a digital compilation album, Lightning In Your Ear, featuring many of the acts from this year’s campout, including Pretty Lights, PANTyRAID annd Beats Antique.

You can stream the album for free after the jump, or purchase the high quality FLAC files by paying whatever you want, with proceeds going to www.criticalbeats.org.

Beats Antique @ Belly Up (Live Review)

It’s easy to get lost in the theatrics of Beats Antique and mistake their stage presentation for a stoner circus sideshow. The sight of two women belly dancing in lucha libre masks and unitards and one of them giving birth to a fully-grown skeleton baby at the song’s conclusion brings to mind kitsch more than moving performance art. Another element distracting the crowd from the manic string work and furious drumming of David Satori and Tommy Cappel is the eye candy that is Zoe Jakes, whose graceful swaying is every bit as sexy as your favorite scene from Black Swan. But when you get beyond the spectacle inherent in any Beats Antique show and sidestep an audience full of hippies and hipsters in rave mode, the trio is a wildly impressive and original conglomerate of middle eastern traditions and hip hop. …MORE

Thievery Corporation, Pretty Lights To Headline Lightning In A Bottle

Last year, URB attended our first Lightning In A Bottle, the annual miniature Burning Man that decends on the outer hills of Orange County with a weekend’s worth of electronic music mayhem, dudes wearing furry chaps, and yoga-toned beauties blowing scented oil bubbles through the crowd. Promoters The Do Lab have given URB the exclusive peak at this year’s line-up, which includes headliners Thievery Corporation and Pretty Lights, along with with stars affilitaed with that scene, such as Beats Antique, PANTyRAID, and KRADDY, plus international heavy hitters Claude Von Stroke, Bonobo and Nick Warren.

The event takes place May 27-30, 2011. Check the full line-up after the jump.
