According to reports on TMZ, Beastie Boys MC Adam Yauch has passed away at the age of 47. At this time, reports point to his bout with cancer (as he was diagnosed in 2009) as the cause of his untimely death. Yauch is survived by his wife and daughter. This is truly a sad day in the world of music.

Beastie Boy Mike D might have been inducted in the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame this week, but that doesn’t mean the hip-hop legend is just chilling in his mansion. The MC still has serious cred, hanging out at Stones Throw HQ in Los Angeles long enough record this 45 minute podcast with Peanut Buter Wolf. The pair keep it mostly old school, talking over tracks from Public Enemy, Kraftwerk and Strafe, but also toss in a new tune by Santigold, proving that their ears are still fresh.
Mike D is in LA currating the Transmission LA: AV Club, at the MOCA Geffen Contemporary, described as a “17-day multi-disciplinary festival, featuring the work of 16 contemporary artists, musicians, designers, filmmakers, chefs and live music/DJ events.” The Stones Throw crew will be appearing at the fest on April 21st with DJs Dam-Funk, J Rocc, Jonti & Peanut Butter Wolf.

Mike D isn’t the only Beastie Boy who’s caught the remix bug lately. Now Ad-Rock has joined in, offerng up a remix of tUnE-yArDs‘ “Gangsta” off of Merrill Garbus’ album, w h o k i l l. The remix will appear on an upcoming EP, due Sept 27 on 4AD, along with another version of the song from Cut Chemist, as well as instumental and accapella versions of the original.
