9 years ago to this day I was playing soccer with my dad next to the Holiday Inn when the radio DJ cut in announcing that tragically Aaliyah had passed in an unfortunate plane crash in the Bahamas, where she had been filming her video for “Rock the Boat”. Aaliyah for me and many other people in the 90′s was the force that combined R&B and Hip-Hop so successfully that now it’s difficult to even imagine both things as separate.
The Princess of R&B will continue to be sorely missed to this day not only by me but a legion of people who cabbage patched and dipped to many of her songs such as the infamous Doctor Doolittle track, “Are You That Somebody” or the song from Romeo Must Die,“Try Again”,
