The crew gets a little help from their friends, like Everlast, Pitbull, Marc Anthony, Daron Malakian, Evidence and Alchemist, and we bring you a behind the scenes snippet of the title track… Green screens? hmm.
In a genre where staying relevant more than a year is a mark of genius, DJ Muggs’ two-decade long career is a testament both to his musical and businessman abilities. The New York-born deejay headed out to Cali in 1985 and, with Cypress Hill, would produce seven studio albums including hip-hop classics Cypress Hill (1991) and Black Sunday (1993). As a producer for hire, Muggs outsourced his talents to countless emcees, producing whole albums with GZA, Planet Asia and Tricky, as well as classics like Ice Cube’s “Check Yo Self” and House of Pain’s “Jump Around.” The latter, one of the most enduring hip-hop songs ever produced, has long been a ubiquitous feature at every stadium, frat house and block party around the world.

I can’t even remember the last time I saw a recent picture of Bizzy Bone, let alone a live performance from the guy. Truth is, I’ve never even been to a Bone Thugs show before. Although even if I had, chances are that Bizzy would not have been present, given his notoriously unreliable performance history. Luckily he was at the Grove of Anaheim last night for the opening night of the Unite the Mic Tour.
After standing around impatiently for wave after wave of opening acts, Bizzy finally made a surprisingly low-key entrance. He was considerably heavier than I’d remembered.
