B. Dolan asks “Which Side Are You On?” (Video)

From his open mic poetry days in NYC to ripping mics at the earth-shattering Church of Love and Ruin shows, B. Dolan has always used his platform and his art to rally against a host of evils plaguing modern man. Falling in line with the ethos of the Church festival, which recently celebrated its second year tearing through the northeast, Dolan’s “Which Side Are You On?” is a battle cry against small-minded hatred. Hip hop has been viewed as a homophobic art form for far too long. One need look no further than the Busta Rhymes interview clip featured in Dolan’s video for a taste of such ignorance. Along with the only footage of the arrest of Leslie Feinberg, a prominent transgender activist who tagged the Minneapolis City Jail is solidarity with Cece McDonald, Atmosphere‘s Slug makes a cameo marching alongside Dolan.

“Which Side Are You On?” is taken from Dolan’s House of Bees Vol. 2 mixtape, available now on Strange Famous Records. His Church of Love and Ruin tour, featuring Sage Francis on select shows, is currently making its way through the UK, with remaining dates listed after the video.

B. Dolan Leaks “King Bee” From HOBV2 (MP3)

With one week til the release of “House of Bees Vol. 2,”  B. Dolan and the folks at Strange Famous have unleashed “King Bee,” the song teased in the original HOBV2 trailer that debuted a month ago.

“King Bee” finds Dolan & Buddy Peace jacking for beats and making a certified rap banger out of the blues standard of the same name. In no mood to pull punches, Dolan tees off with a brash reminder of his hard-earned credibility: “I invented Ugly,” he declares, and proceeds to bare his teeth at more than a few of his rap peers. Mr. Dolan is sounding more seasoned and antagonistic than ever on this one, and doesn’t hesitate to throw shade at a field of peers who would rather “stay home and hope to go viral” than dedicate themselves to …

Grand Buffet Reunites for 2nd Annual Church of Love & Ruin (Video & MP3)

Pittsburgh indie rap legends Grand Buffet are reuniting for a four-show Northeast run of B. Dolans’s 2nd Annual Church of Love & Ruin. The group has been on a three year hiatus following years of touring in which they stole show after show opening for the likes of MGMT, Girl Talk, and Of Montreal. The event, which drew rave reviews last year, is inspired by UK boutique festivals and features everything from hip hop to burlesque to toilet paper dodgeball. This year’s lineup sees the addition of Strange Famous head honcho Sage Francis, Mux Mool of Ghostly International, SXSW favorites Wheelchair Sports Camp, and the Providence duo Juan Deuce & Falside. Returning from last year’s festival are the 21-piece What? Cheer Brigade as well as Vockah Redu & The Cru. Rapper/activist B. Dolan will …

B. Dolan’s “Film The Police” Goes Viral (Video)

Last week, Strange Famous Records released “Film The Police,” the first single from B. Dolan‘s House of Bees Vol. II mixtape. The song is a blistering political anthem featuring label boss Sage Francis, Toki Wright of Rhymesayers, activist/rap journalist Jasiri X and UK crate digger Buddy Peace.

“Film The Police,” pays tribute to N.W.A.’s infamous “Fuck The Police,” and serves as a call to action for the digitized media movement while responding to the recent explosion of police brutality all across the world.

Since it’s release, the video has logged close to 70,000 views in seven days, and earned an incredible number of co-signs from folks like Michael Moore, folk singer/activist Billy Bragg, Killer Mike, Jay Smooth, and countless others. The song has also been picked up and retweeted by Anonymous Central and a number of international #Occupy accounts, making it one of the first popular anthems of this year’s definitive movement.
