Factory Records To Release Dance Music Compilation

We learned a while ago that everyone will dance to “Transmission” and “Blue Monday,” but those aren’t the only floor-fillers released by Factory Records in the legendary UK indie imprint’s history. Dance music archivist Bill Brewster has teamed up with Strut Records to unearth a two-CD collection of rare gems from the Factory Records catalog that will fill out your Serato crate labeled “80s Post-Punk Dance.”

The compilation, FAC. DANCE, compiles 24 little known 12-inch mixes and other odds and ends from the Factory archives designed or DJs. Of particular note are tunes by Quango Quango, A Certain Ratio and 52 Street (in collaboration with New Order’s Bernard Sumner and NO/Afrika Bambaataa producer Arthur Baker, and remixed by NYC DJ legend Jellybean Benitez). The CD comes out on October 10th.

Complete tracklist and asample tunes after the jump.

New Order Live @ The Paradise Garage 1983 (Bootleg) (MP3)

We’ve written here before that the greatest music video of all time might just be New Order’s “Confusion.” The clip was shot as the band club-hops though New York’s infamous early’80s venues, including The Paradise Garage and The Funhouse. Apparently the UK four-some did more than party at these legendary clubs, as this ancient bootleg  of an actual gig at the Paradise Garage confirms.

Holy Ghost! New Track and LCD Soundsystem Remix (MP3)

It’s nice when you can see a group slowly bubble up to the top. Holy Ghost! made a pretty serious statement with their first track, “Hold On” which still holds up in many a DJ set. Then they got down with Arthur Baker for the video to “I Will Come Back” and did some smart remixes for Friendly Fires and Cut Copy. Now they’re ready to double down with a new cut of their own, “Say My Name” and a full EP (hard to believe, their first), Static on the Wires.

Oh yeah, and the duo is gonna finally get live on tour this summer opening for LCD Soundsystem and company. And they’ve issued a remix of Murphy’s divisive lead single “Drunk Girls” which is sure to be loved by everyone who rolled their eyes at the original. In other words, …

HOLY GHOST!: Interview

DFA Disco Duo On How To Properly "Use" Records

Two years is a long time. It’s an especially long time if you spend it waiting for new original music from some or your favorite musical artists. New York disco duo Holy Ghost!, made up of Nicholas Millhiser and Alexander Frankel, understand this, and feel bad for keeping fans waiting. The last (and only) non-remixed material the group released was an iTunes Single of the Week, entitled “Hold On,” in 2007. As a result, the apologetic DFA-signed pair is releasing its next song free via GreenLabelSounds.com on June 24. I sat down with the guys and talked about touring around Europe, transitioning from Hip Hop to disco, and how technology is changing the world of DJing.
