Kutmah’s “Two Soups And A Honeybun” gallery show opening photos

Celebrated (and yet unfortunately deported to the UK) LA artist Kutmah aka Justin McNulty opened the first leg of his “Two Soups And A Honeybun” gallery show of his prison drawings in London. 37 pencil drawings created with just a prison ID and 2 inch pencil, these works defiantly speak louder than words. For more information on the exhibition check out the gallery site 18 Hewett Street, where the show continues until February 13th, with an exclusive soundtrack provided by Kutmah’s latest mix “The New Error Vol 1″. Go cop your copy over at his Kutmah site. And if in London – check it out.

The show was brought to you a proper LA and London collaborative collective – VTech, Hit+Run, Earnest Endeavours and Protein.

Janie Korn: The Only Artist @TheAlexChapman Cares About

Now rarely do I make my way over to the “Culture” tab on URB’s wordpress to create a new post, but I’ve recently been so enthralled in an artist’s work that I was compelled to share her talent with my readers (reader..sup mom). A Ohio native that currently resides in B-More, 23 year-old Janie Korn has a knack for satirical, pop culture-savy  hipster humor that seems to be lacking these days as—let’s face it— hipsters aren’t funny. But be assured Janie’s caricature-esque illustrations are hilarious and insightful, whether they are built upon an absurd play-on words, or Korn’s observant wit. Or if they are just plain weird. Either way, the Goucher alum’s drawings are as strangely appealing as they are impressive—One look at her website, …

Daft Punk – Tron: Legacy Original Soundtrack (Preview)

Being a huge fan of the original TRON (1982), I grew skeptical when Disney announced they would be revisiting the world of TRON in an updated sequel reboot simply because I found the original film near perfect (plus, no one wants a formative filmic experience from childhood messed with). With an orchestral score by the legendary musician Wendy Carlos, the original film resonated with my budding technophilia at a critical moment in my childhood (I was about 7 years old when I first saw the film). The music became a critical part of what made the film particularly memorable, being intrinsically connected to the visual design of the movie. Disney, I thought, had crafted a beautiful and memorable picture, a beautiful example of the possibilities of the marriage between storytelling and technology.  1982’s TRON was a piece of art, a …

Stereolab – Not Music (Review)

Stereolab

Not Music

Released by Drag City / Duophonic

London-based experimental, electronic, post-rock and pop music outfit Stereolab return to marketplace with a brilliant collection, Not Music, an accompaniment to their underappreciated 2008 effort, Chemical Chords.  While it stands alone as a record in its own right, the tracks included on Not Music are cues left out from their last record; it follows the format of some previous b-sides and rarities collections they’ve put out such as Fab Four Suture, Oscillations from the Anti-Sun and the Switched On series.  Not Music is perhaps not as cohesive as Chemical ...

Kanye Collab Murakami Takes Over Versailles

Frequent Kanye West collaborator and Japanese pop-art genius Takashi Murakami offers Huffington Post a sneak peak at his newest exhibition, this one at the famed Palace of Versailles in France. It’s stunning how surprisingly well Murakami’s colorful creations work with the ultra-ornate decor of what is one of the most lavish palaces ever constructed. …MORE
