The Best of 2009…A Look Back Into The Future!

Ah, the holidays.
Tis the season for giving, receiving and the ubiquitous ‘Best of’ lists. The infamous ‘Best Of’ list is supposed to be a wrap up to remind us of the important and trivial events of the year, perhaps to let us glimpse just how far we’ve come. Or regressed…

As the Christmas shopping season begins earlier and earlier, the magazines, newspapers and blogs start cluttering our collective unconscious with their top ten lists. Some are critics and well studied on their subjects. Others just think we give a shit about a list of a few of their favorite things.

When faced with the task of creating a list like this, I looked for topics. My favorite live shows? I went to …

Cage the Elephant in Wales. And then fuck the man, man!

Nothing screams “alternative music blog” like subverting one’s editor on the first go. While the original intent of my blogging was to bring all that is new and exciting in NYC to the attention of URB.com readers, I simply cannot, in good faith, ignore the super sweet 16 days I just spent in the UK. The 1900s

Friday night belonged to Bloc Party, but The 1900s provided a good show of their own as they lived up to the hype surrounding their expansive pop …

It's a Bit Complicated

Released by Downtown

Some bands go for the big time from the beginning. Art Brut is not one of those bands. More famous for being really fucking funny than for their instrumental chops, Art Brut's debut album Bang Bang Rock and Roll seemed more like a collection of ridicously good singles rather than one of the top records of 2005. With their sophomore album looming, it would be easy to peg the band as pure hype'that's exactly where they want to be.

Art Brut is a band that is all about ...
