Listen To New Aphex Twin Music (Video)

Anyone familiar with the full discography of Richard D. James knows just how prolific he was in the ’90s. Which is why it’s so frustrating that there’s not been a whole lot of Aphex music since the 2005 Analord releases, which tended to fall on the harder side of Jame’s musical spectrum. Now Aphex Twin is doing a series of DJ dates in Europe, and they’re supposedly chocked full of new music, including this wonderfully dreamy six-minute segment captured by an audience member. The video sucks, but the audio is fantastic— all blurbling beats and chiming synths. Makes me wanna do the doodlebug dance in phat pants. [Pitchfork]

Blue Daisy: Seen Through A Blue-Tinged Spectrum (Podcast)

URB Presents

Blue Daisy: Seen Through A Blue-Tinged Spectrum

With bass culture splintering all over the world, producers have been looking for ways to channel their sound in ways that were once unimaginable to listeners. Some producers went towards percussion, some with specific synthesized sounds, and others relied on atmosphere to distinguish themselves from the rest of the pack. In some unusual-but-wholly-sensible way, Blue Daisy fits that trifecta of sounds, going between rhythms, vibes, and beats with an ever-expanding soundscape that continues to grow with each release. With only two releases, he’s been championed by DJs and producers all around, setting himself up for a massive year ahead. Lying between the borders of hip-hop, dub, and tech, Blue Daisy delivers a mix that is a mystery to all listeners, as a tracklist was “unavailable.” It makes for an audible ride through the mind of a producer who is already one step ahead of most. Blue Daisy also had a bit of time to give us some info on his origins, his focus on spaced-out atmosphere and his future.

Animal Collective Releases Film Preview (Video)

Everyone’s artists of the everything last year have released a trailer to for their experimental film, Oddsac. A quick viewing (it’s only 26 seconds long) reveals a colorful yet creepy kaleidoscope—not unlike one of the band’s videos or album covers, but with a little Chris Cunningham/Aphex Twin vibe thrown in.

Hitfix attended an actual screening at Sundance last night, and had this to day:

“ODDSAC” is not a traditional film, let alone a concert film or music video or a strictly experimental exercise. A film like this that takes four to five years to complete is no exercise.

Animal Collective and frequent collaborator Danny Perez created a very colorful movie that entirely …

Lone: Sending Synthesized Shivers Down Your Spine + EXCLUSIVE Unreleased Track (MP3)

Going between the worlds of Aphex Twin and Wu-Tang, while stopping by for some chocolate cake.

Matt Cutler is a producer that comes too few and far between. From starting his music career with the vastly underrated project Kids In Tracksuits, Cutler was always on the otherworldly hip-hop tip, finding ways to exploit beats into tasty audible pretzel knots. When he took on the moniker of Lone, he twisted the knots even further and threw lush synth sounds to create audible journeys into an ethereal utopia clouded by the selective samples used in his tracks. However, since he’s always making tons of these fantastic tunes, he rarely has time to do a full-fledged interview. Luckily, we got a hold of Lone at the right time: right after his stellar album Ecstasy & Friends came out, and he gave us details on his musical uprooting, his tune-making process and his favorite artists at the moment. All that, plus an exclusive unreleased track down below for download! …MORE
