Last week, we got our sexy robot dance on in URB HQ while listening to “Give It To Me,” the latest by Mr. INTL—the vintage equipment collaboration between Hercules & Love Affair’s Andy Butler and SF jock Jason Kendig. Today we’re oiling our sprockets again for this remix by German retro-house fetishists Snuff Crew. Robot rock indeed.
I was actually supposed to interview Andy Butler of Hercules & Love Affair a while ago at the Park Hyatt but I had to run. Lolla weekend was busy and later on Andy’s publicist approached me about Andy’s new project/label, Mr. INTL. This is basically just an email exchange between us, Andy is currently touring the world and working on managing his new label, but he did take the time to name five songs that influenced his unique house and disco sound. …MORE
Last week’s listening was pretty much monopolized by Hercules & Love Affair’s brilliant second album, Blue Songs. So it’s nice to wake up on a Monday and find a fresh DJ mix by Andy Butler of songs that inspired the new album. Kinda like starting the week with the musical equivalant of steel cut oatmeal.

It looks like we might be waiting a minute for that new album Hercules and Love Affair recently promised. In the mean time, those lucky sonsofguns over at XLR8R are streaming the debut track by H&LA leader Andy Butler and SF-via-Detroit house DJ Jason Kendig, whose residency at my old Motor City nightclub taught me the true dance floor power of New Order’s “Bizarre Love Trangle.”
STREAM :: Andy Butler & Jason Kendig – “And I’m (So In Love With You)”
The track marks the debut release on the pair’s Mr. Intl (that’s Mister International to you) label. You can grab it along with remixes from Kink and Deetron next week.
A couple of big announcements from two groups that pretty much represent the gold standard for dance music these days. Assuring that the fall will be a good place on the blogs and the dance floor.
Hot Chip will be releasing the We Have Remixes EP on September 7th for Astralwerks. Included in the package is psychedelic specialist Caribou, retro-house man of the moment Todd Edwards, criminally underrated Ghostly International producer Osborne nad UK new jacks Hot City.
Meanwhile, the president of all things gay house/disco Andy Butler has readied the second full-length by Hercules and Love Affair with a couple of new names, Venezuelan singer Aerea Negrot, and Shaun J. Wright (who Butler randomly met at an H&LA show in NYC) joining known factors Kim Ann Foxman and Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke.
