Amon Tobin
Bloodstone EP
Released by Ninja Tune
This month's must-download iTunes EP comes to us by way of the always-astounding Amon Tobin. Meant as a teaser to his forthcoming Foley Room LP, Bloodstone hints at Tobin's first Matmos moment--chopping up found sounds (wasps, water and cats eating rats, among other things) with twinkling piano chords, concrete block breaks and the occasional Kronos Quartet accompaniment. If the rest of the album is this good, Tobin might have his first classic since Supermodified.

Bloodstone/Ethers/Here Comes the Moon Man
Released by Ninja Tune
The first fruits from Tobin's new found-sound opus Foley Room, this three-tracker is certainly a diverse set of samples. 'Bloodstone' is an orchestral piano waltz, with strings by the Kronos Quartet which he then attacks with a barrage of beats: 'Esthers' is also piano-led, then descends into an industrial Dick Dale motorcycle stomp, while the exclusive 'Here Comes the Moon Man,' taken from an avant-garde Hungarian movie, is a chopped-up eastern bloc party.
