Paper Route x Diplo x Men Without Hats (MP3)

If Diplo was to somehow come into possession of a Delorean or a phone booth or some other time-traveling vessel and then go back in time–twenty eight years–and explain to the band Men Without Hats that he was going to extrapolate a sample from their insanely infectious opus “The Safety Dance”, and glue a thumping bass line onto it while a crew of Alabama rappers toasted to life in the fast lane, their minds would have been blown.

However, manipulating the space-time-continuum for the sake of blowing the minds of Men Without Hats would have changed the course of time and we may not have Paper Route’s new banger “Stop N Go. I would, however, like to see if the Montreal-based band digs PRGz and Diplo’s usage. …

Yelawolf “Pop the Trunk” (Video)

Yelawolf is in the wrong business. The Alabama MC and 25: NOW! artist is so convincing and downright haunting in this video that he should be an actor. We are all weary of white-boy rappers, but his exceptional rapping skills make him a true force to reckon with as his mixes classic rock elements with Southern rap. Agent of Change :: The New Boyz and Paper Route Gangstaz, a retropsect

I’ve been trying to wrap my head around this Healthcare debate all month. Translation: I neglected the second in a three-part series of exclusive interviews with artists of tomorrow (b.k.a. the Agent of Change summer series). Last month I highlighted Detroit rhymesayer Finale. Luckily my URB colleagues have it covered. Below are two in-depth interviews with leaders of different, though equally innovative, movements. The first highlights The New Boyz: colorful, fun-loving maestros of the Jerkin’ revolution that’s sweeping the Southland. The second delves into the depths of the Dirty Dirty; Alabama’s Paper Route Gangstaz get gully and let loose. Both interviews were featured on URB.com earlier this month. Respect.

PAPER ROUTE GANGSTAZ: Spaceage Southern Hospitality

A college professor once told me that starting from the era of Mark Twain, literature presented two types of characters that were constantly at-odds with one-another. His theory was that these two opposing figures have never been represented better then by the two main characters on Cheers. That is, there’s big-mouthed urbanite, Sam and conversely, there’s the small-townie, underdog, Woody. Ironically, while the general population roots for Woody, the competitive nature of the world nudges our aspirations to become Sam because we believe that his intelligence and his career path is more in-line with the prototype of success. Our sympathy for Woody is essentially an act of charity. However, perhaps the Woody’s of the world don’t need our charity; as underdogs constantly sipping their milk through the short end of the stick, perhaps they’ve been forced to develop a new …
