Mount Kimbie follow up their highly-regarded 2010 album, Crooks & Lovers with an EP that stays on track with the duo’s crisp-yet-dusty take on post-dubstep (couldn’t we just get retro and call it IDM?). The Carbonated EP comes out July 18th on Hot Flush, and features three new tunes by Dominic Maker and Kai Campos, plus remixes by Airhead and Belgium’s latest techno star, Peter Van Hoesen.

The HiFi Cartel is doing things big once again; as if their previous venture into bass wasn’t enough, the collective have outdone themselves by presenting an event showcasing one of the most historic and iconic labels in electronic music history. The famed and revived R&S Records will be showcasing the likes of The Chain, a rare DJ set from Brainmath artist Airhead, and of course, electronic music’s current crossover sensation, James Blake, in his FIRST EVER DJ set on Stateside soil. While some people know Blake for his emotive vocally-driven productions, he returns to his roots this time around, representing his past, present and future history as a producer in the bass world as well as previous occupation, being a great DJ. More info on the event, where to buy tickets and where it’s at after the jump.

For some, the start of a new year means a fresh start, a smattering of new beginnings and the welcome opportunity to suppress any previous personal woes and move on to better things. For others, though, it’s simply business as usual, whether it be another monochrome day in the rat race, another shunt against the omnipresent recession or another day spent at home pointlessly filing paperwork and eating yoghurt in your underpants.
The real beauty of 2010’s forthcoming operations for some dubstep labels, though, is the ability to disguise their fierce forward motion as regular operation.
