Dizzee’s ‘Maths’ Definitively Coming Stateside

Perhaps Dizzee Rascal‘s descision to release last year’s career climax of an album, Maths + English, only as a digital revolution was a tad premature. The lack of a hard copy failed to legitimize it to many, even as its merits further propelled Rascal. Either way, more people will hopefully hear it, as Definitive Jux has agreed to release the record, both as CD and again with the digital business, according to Pitchfork. With the re-release comes two new studio recordings and a remix from El-P.

In another Definitive Jux story, Aesop Rock will be performing a free show in New York, according to a MySpace secret show bulletin we just received. Details are listed as plain text below….and below that? Aesop’s rad musical flick for “Coffee” from his last album, None Shall Pass.

Slug’s First Cover/Phone Masturbation

Sean Daley, aka Atmosphere’s MC, aka Slug, has made a career of exposing himself. Not in a trenchcoat in front of the grammar school kinda way, but on the mic. Fittingly enough for URB’s issue full of firsts, Slug might’ve been the first rapper to make an album about a girl. And even more vulnerably, the heartbreak she caused. Aesop Rock – Metro – Chicago 9/13

It’s early in the lengthy tour, but the show was already in top shape for Aesop Rock when he landed in Chicago Thursday night. The crowd was definitely glad to see him and knew what they were in for as they rapped along to the choruses of every cut throughout the crisp set that leaned heavily on his recently released None Shall Pass.

The crowd had their hands bobbing in the air from the moment Aes stepped on stage accompanied by Rob Sonic and DJ Big Wiz. He didn’t make them wait with much chatter, simply dropping into rhymes and running through songs until Big Wiz provided the transition to the next one. Aes dropped his rhymes with clarity and authority, hitting the high points of the new disc, especially on the title track.

None Shall Pass

Released by Definitive Jux

There's rarely been a universality to Aesop Rock's music (and it's unlikely he's ever tried), but there's always been one element directly tied to those rare, near-pop moments: balance. The dude has and always will be difficult to decipher, as his snarlingly sharp and thesaurus-thick drawl delivers extended metaphors much longer than this country's average attention span (and often in protest of said ADD). It'd be a challenge if he rapped solely over acappellas, but Aes Rizzle has often made a habit of choosing equally difficult production that creates ...
