A-Trak x Obey Drop ‘Dirty South Dance 2′ Mixtape (MP3)

What is it with A-Trak and birds? First Duck Sauce, and now Shepard Fairey’s cover art for Dirty South 2, with a crafty crow about to gas up the mash-up and burn the house down. Maybe the A stands for “Avian.”

Leave it to A-Trak to find the crease where mash-ups still make plenty of sense and iron it out for the rest of our ears. The first Dirty South Dance was a revelation when it dropped in 2007, and the second installment retains the promise, with our favorite Montreal turntable expert pairing up hip-hop’s hypest with the electronic beats keep him headlining clubs and raves across the country.

It’s ON: DMC Battles Report & Raw Video DL from New Orleans + Upcoming DMC Dates (Video)

URB asked none other than DMC CEO Christie Z-Pabon to give us a road diary of a day in the life: airline-damaged gear, 3-way ties, and kismet encounters awaited, as she headed off to New Orleans, USA: “Arrived to the American Airlines terminal at JFK, and who was standing outside the door like an omen for good things to come?  1997 DMC World Champion: DJ A-Trak!! MFG, Mean Red & Obey Giant Present: DANCE RIGHT NEW YORK (May 1st)

Get ready to get your May Day on.

So if you’re in New York City and walk around as much a typical citizen does, you might have noticed Shepard Fairey’s new mural on Houston St. Elegant, in-your-face and eye-popping, it’s a wonder to look at, like most of Fairey’s work. Today, Fairey debuts his May Day exhibition at the Deitch Projects (highly recommended to check out), and afterwards L.A.’s seminal DANCE RIGHT party gets ready for a New York turnaround. In association with MFG, Mean Red, and Obey Giant, DANCE RIGHT NEW YORK will debut its first event in the series with tunes provided by resident DJ Pubes, Diabetic and turntablist maestro A-Trak. This event acts as the afterparty to Fairey’s exhibition and the best party to hit up tonight. However, presale tickets are SOLD OUT so if you’re thinking about going, get there early. Details after the jump.

Seventh Birthday Weekender Festival INSTITUBES x A-Trak Interview

April 9th and 10th marked the seventh birthday of Institubes, the electronic record label, home to artists Bobmo, Das Glow, Midnight Juggernauts, Para One, Orgasmic, Teki Tek, Surkin, and more. This year the label celebrated by hosting a tremendous music festival at Paris’s club l’Enfer, the massive underground lair that sees many a music event and party (although I imagine is not always easy to fill, at least not like Institubes did this weekend). The label was, however, looking to stay close to their interests and priorities: the music… A festival that was 100% independent, without any major sponsors, without printed flyers lining the streets, smack dab in the middle of Paris. And they did just that. The dual stages in the two connecting rooms of club l’Enfer were non-stop bumping while the various artists mixed, spun, played, and sang …
