URB Exclusive: Jinx – Futurama (MP3)

Last Month, URB.com hosted it’s official Next 100 Showcase down in Austin, Texas where we debuted a number of DOPE new artists.

Among them, was a fresh, young, charismatic rapper known as JINX, reppin’ Seattle by way of Boston. It was his standout rooftop performance that afternoon in Austin that landed him here, in the prestigious URB Blog, and as always you heard it here first.

So, I’ll save the thousand words for something more in depth down the road, but in the meantime if you want to hear some fresh spits, hit the jump for the download.

Saturday, Shirtless Men Gathered For Tiesto

Day two’s featured weirdo seized 5 minutes of fame between Band Of Skulls & Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. He rolled a ball around in his hands…

As quickly as the spectators gathered, they turned away without a clap or giving a tip. But he seemed inspired. Let this be symbolic of Day 2’s inclination towards the psychedelic.

GREATEST HITS:

Saturday’s country rep, Old Crow Medicine Medicine Show, wielded the power of string bands—old school party music—and talked up Southern food metaphors for sex. Sex was a hot topic today, mingling in places with the overall psychedelic electric feel. Actually saw a woman caressing her man’s wee wee in middle of the day while he lay back tanning his armpits. [shudder] Beach House enveloped the lullaby bedside of psychedelic while The XX covered …

Friday, Beyonce Came To Coachella (Video & MP3)

If your dogs aren’t barking by the end of day one, you’re probably high and have a nosebleed and don’t even know it. Nosebleeds abounded for some reason amongst the crowd at Coachella’s first day. As did people on all kinds of drugs at all times of the day. Holding hands with friends and staring at the grass might be fun, but with all the music to keep up with, it seems hallucinatory distractions are barely necessary. Imagine meeting this woman on drugs:

She presses your forehead to her cheek and tells you a story. When she was little playing in the snow with her brother, he got bored and she was nagging. He rolled up a ball of dirt and she peed on it and what that did was create the …

Yeasayer – Odd Blood (Review)

Yeasayer

Odd Blood

Released by Secretly Canadian

For whatever reason, wanting to go pop and rocking your indie foundation is a sin punishable by having heaps of shit talked about whatever skills you may have stepped-up in order to appeal to wider audiences--even if those very skills are things we all love. Conceived with the mindset of crafting a sound that will become your next favorite record, Yeasayer’s second album, Odd Blood, will make many of those “don’t tell me who you love, but show me” critics hurl pejoratives from their ivory tower. While it almost goes without staying that every band's aspiration is to ingeniously pique the interest of their listeners by reinventing old elements and coupling them with new and creative tones, it seems this record's goal is not necessarily to go without saying, but say it all in the fewest possible breaths. In theory, the record, pulling from both '80s synth-pop constructs and its experimental arrangement, approaches its themes in such a way that it would be an inevitable pop smash. Why is it then, that with all of these irrefutably enjoyable elements that this sophomore effort comes off more as an awkwardly self-aware attempt at commercialism than a genuine artistic venture?

The Gaslamp Killer + Prefuse 73 start the New Year off right with tour

I think most of us have had a tumultuous year and are keen to start 2010 off on a good foot.  Sometimes said good foot can be a little difficult, it’s not as though the clock strikes midnight and all thoughts & problems vanish with the tick of a hand.  Thankfully we have people like The Mother F&%$ing Gaslamp Killer and Prefuse 73.  To help you start the year off right they have given you 15 US tour dates to head to.  Sometimes all that good foot needs is a dance floor… these two boys might know a little something about that. Word, that’s what I call a good start to the year.
