Jason Bentley: KCRW's New Music Director
The invasion of eighties babies is officially on. Inspired by Nintendo (not Atari) and the never-ending quest for the freshest sneakers, Brooklyn's own Nov Ganon is indicative of a new breed of rapper. This kid's bringing whip-crack rhymes, over beats which zap like a spaceship full of Thundercats, Silverhawks and Care Bears. Don't be surprised if you never hear another beat sampled from Marvin Gaye or Earth, Wind and Fire cuts; the new generation is channeling thick electro beats and is sampling the "new-oldies" such as Daft Punk. Wow, that makes me feel old.
