Don’t think that Japan is simply a spectator in the hip-hop movement because that’s not the case at all. Nujabes (the wicked producer on this track), has worked with such artists as CL Smooth, Substantial, CYNE, Apani B and has also done work on the anime series Samurai Champloo. Once you take a listen, you’ll be hooked. Utilizing heavy melodies and jazz sounds alongside drums that are just strong enough, this man always has something that you will want to listen to. He ain’t no lightweight either. Nujabes’ 2003 album Metaphorical Music sold 20,000 copies its first year. So what’s the big deal? Well, it was an independent release. Take that dwindling record industry!
