RISK Art Gallery: Without Completion
Jason Bentley: KCRW's New Music Director
Over the last few years more and more acts have come to combine two formerly disparate genres: geeky electro sleez and old-school hip-hop. He Say, She Say, the Chicago duo of Drea and Million Dollar Mano, clearly know how to jump into a scene—their bouncy electro jams borrow equal parts from electroclash (the squiggly synth line and skittering beat) and Spank Rock-style party rap (the semi-dirty lyrics). “Turn around, bend over/ close your eyes, keep quiet now,” sings Drea in “Crash Dummie,” a song that wouldn’t sound out of place next to Fischerspooner or Girl Talk at the next Check Your Ponytail! party. They make records for dance floors, not headphones, so theirs no point in dissecting every lyrical trope. Get off your MacBooks and into the club.
