RISK Art Gallery: Without Completion
Jason Bentley: KCRW's New Music Director
Eyezon is on top of his shit...a rare gem in hip-hop who has the ferocity of black power in his demeanor, without approaching Dead Prez's style of blatant, in your face lyrics...not that there's anything wrong with that. Eyezon teams up with North Carolina-based producer Sean Lane to bring us A People Like Us, a very moving hip-hop album with great production as well as flawless lyrical skill. The beats border soulful Kanye West-like rhythms, but definitely have a flare of their own. Eyezon's lyrical flow could be likened to that of Nas or Pac, but with his own voice, and this is coming from a cat who holds English as his second language(he is originally from South Africa). The soulful vibes throughout the album make it something to hold onto in this time of material-injected hip-hop. Don't let the introduction fool you on "So Much More," when the beat drops so will your jaw.
