This week’s special podcast comes from the mind of Houston-bred, Berlin-based “digital aesthetic” Lōtic. Signed to Brooklyn next-generation electronic label SCI-FI & FANTASY, the 23-year old producer dazzled us here at URB with his two-track scorcher “Sankofa/Glittering”, meshing together elements of ballroom, booming bass, footwork, industrial and experimental drone atmospheres to create a thoroughly unique sonic experience that will charm, confuse and cross dance floors. This is the epitome of “next shit”, people. With that said, Lōtic gave us a quick write-up of this special mix, entitled “The Weighing Of The Heart”; where he carved a path between the sounds of his own productions, his contemporaries, and his #feelings. For real. Check out Lōtic’s words, as well as the track list, down below. Happy hunting.
Well, this is something we have been looking forward to. Initially, when we heard Marc Romboy and Ken Ishii were working together, we laughed at the possibility that both these techno titans would come together for a measly podcast. We couldn’t be happier that we’re wrong, as the Systematic Recordings kingpin and Japanese legend brought URB a tremendous mix that goes between past and present in seamless fashion.
Something within the vocals, productions and synth work of Sally Shapiro lies a wicked DJ. We at URB knew this from the moment we heard the duo way back, and were intrigued at the prospect of a Sally Shapiro mix. Well, …
This week’s URB podcast comes from the likes of Tom Dicicco, the UK-based producer that has been steadily weaving himself upon the subconscious ecosystem that surrounds the likes of Shifted, Svreca and Truncate. Dicicco’s already amassed a following with his previous releases for labels like Traut Muzik, Baud and his Project Squared release with fellow UK off-techno compatriot Kowton, and he’s not showing any signs of slowing down. We wouldn’t want him to, as his adept sonics are a thunderous joy to listeners and clubgoers alike. Get lost in the darkness with this week’s mix, you won’t regret it. No tracklist, open mind.
This week’s URB podcast comes from ShadowBox; Brooklyn-based and roaming free through the doldrums of listeners worldwide, Bonnie Baxter’s collaborative efforts with Icky Doome have resulted in attention from the UK’s Pictures Music, prompting a release from them last summer, entitled Haunted By Colors. Vibrant, eerie and lush, the sounds of ShadowBox are reflective of NYC in a filter only seen through at sunrise, with ears ringing. When one wakes up from that episode, they should listen to their podcast exclusively for URB. It’s not the typical dance affair and we like it that way. We look forward to what’s next with ShadowBox in 2013 and so should you. Check out the tracklist below.
