Jason Bentley: KCRW's New Music Director
This is a raw and quick throw-up from Kid Sister's one-off show in NYC, where Asics re-launched their SportStyle by setting the world's record for the largest Lite-Brite on the planet. I can only imagine what the brainstorming session was like at UG Strategies when they came up with this idea...Kid Sister is just too fine. Add her self-deprecating humor and you get an insane level of charm. Plus, she travels with two bad-ass back-up dancers who dress like new-wave pixies that remind me of Martha Graham, New Order's "True Faith" video, The Buggles, early 80's Fiorucci and every sci-fi move from the 1950's...Onstage, her and her brother make the most telegenic pairing since Donny & Marie, Michael and Janet...When we gave Kid Sister a copy of URB (the cover of which she graces in full glory) she told us that she hadn't seen it yet and then pretty gamely took a bite outta our mag (at the 5:53 mark) We asked her to show us the new sneakers Asics gave her and she opened a box revealing a bottle of Bombay Gin, and we instantly fell in love -- that's some real shit! Somebody better put her in a movie soon...
