Santogold/Mad Decent Summerstage (review)

The heat was horrendous but as soon as I heard the sweet sounds of Erlend Oye pumping through the speakers I was reminded that it's events like this that prove how much people love/worship/obsess over music. I spied some serious fabulousness when a group of boys "roped off" a dance floor on the grass using styrofoam bowls. One of the boys started doing some yoga styled break dancing as soon as the dance floor was complete and fun-time was on. Even the weather decided to cooperate, as a breeze came and a loud "sigh" was heard throughout the swelling crowds...

I have two words to sum up the entire performance: "MAD DECENT." From the girls in the "GET MAD" t-shirts to the non-stop dance-inducing DJ skills of Diplo, A-Trak, Blaqstarr. There was plenty of smoke to compliment all the Three 6 Mafia blasting from the speakers, and someone dropping a Dead Prez track almost made up for hearing MIA's "Paper Planes" 10 times.

Santogold was her usual awesome, with her dancers in their frilly white tops and pants reminiscent of Hammer-time. Last time I peeped them head-on, and this time my side-view of the dancers was BOOTYLICIOUS fo sure. LOVES it! All would have been perfect if it wasn't for the crazy girls who didn't want to get hit by Kid Cudi's squirt gun (?!!?) so they kept stepping on my toes as they dodged and weaved the water spray. Still, bruised toes in NYC are as common as taxi cabs, and Summerstage continues to be one of the city's treasures.
