Neon Noise: Ladytron start seeing ghosts + more (MP3)

Posted Wednesday, May 07, 2008 @ 06:11 in by Paul V.

Sorry for being lax in my postings, but can you say shit hard-drive?

Computer woes aside, I've got some new nuggets for y'all.

Velocifero CDLadytron

Ladytron - Ghosts (Toxic Avenger remix) (mp3)

Ladytron fans are waiting with baited breath for the June 3rd release of "Velocifero." Some longtime fans felt the Liverpool quartet was cruising a bit on autopilot for their last effort (but there's no denying how infectious "Destroy Everything You Touch" was), yet all reports on the new effort seem to be A+. The disc is co-produced with Alessandro Cortini and Vicarious Bliss, and it's their debut effort on their new label, Nettwerk. The first official single has a few remixes floating about, including this crunchy, frothing mix from Parisian knobtwister,
The Toxic Avenger.

MGMT - Kids (Afterschool Special Megamix (mp3)

Just when you think you've settled on your favorite song from MGMT's fantabulous debut disc, you most likely keep listening and find another. I'm still zeroed in on "Time To Pretend" holding court, but "Kids" is now gaining steam. I don't know where this remix comes from or even who made it - or if it's just the original version from their demo? I just like it alot, and the slightly more stripped-down, less-produced feel. Maybe that's an electric feel (rimshot!)

Broken English CD

Marianne Faithfull - Broken English (Baron Von Luxxury Slow Touch Mix) (mp3)

She started off as the waifish, floral-voiced girlfriend of Mick Jagger in the mid-60's and eventually matured into the throaty, husky-voiced dame she is today. The "Broken English" album from 1979 was (and still is) one of my favorite discs of the era. And it's where Faithfull left the waif in the dust and got some dirt under her nicotine and heroin-stained fingernails. While she's been off the smack for years, she still smokes like a fiend (listen below).

And it's quite possible that a diapered Peaches (and/or Monica Lewinsky) heard their parents playing the explicit "Why'd Ya Do It" and a career was born? We'll never know. Meantime, the title track still holds up 100%, and this remix from SF's Baron Von Luxxury adds just enough extension and chugging production for hipster dancefloors. Go give the illustrious Baron some love over at his Disco Workout blog. Fun fact: That's Steve Winwood playing that rolling bassline.

This is the original version via video (which sounds sped up?).
I'm not sure if this is official video, or made by someone else.

Kissin' Time CDBeck & Marianne Faithfull

Marianne Faithfull - Sex With Strangers (mp3)
Check out this sexy, blippy, bloopy and oh so funky track from La Faithfull, co-written and produced by Beck. This comes from her 2002 collaboration-laced disc, "Kissin' Time"

M.I.A. vs. Filter vs. Bon Jovi - M.I.A., Shot Dead Or Alive (mp3)

Hear what you get when you shove M.I.A.'s peanut butter ("Paper Planes") in someone else's chocolate - which would be Filter and Bon Jovi. This comes from two different mashups:
DJ Gizmo and DJ Schmolli created the seperate, respective mixes - but I took them both and made my own combo mash.
