Akon a faux con

Akon a faux con

Calling him “James Frey with catchy hooks and an American Music Award” those clever snoops at The Smoking Gun have a piece up yesterday blowing the lid on the R&B crooner’s felonious past.

While the “Locked Up” singer loves to play up his storied incarceration for heading up a Gone in 60 Seconds-style car theft ring, his real criminal past includes only a few minor arrests and one five-month stint in a county lock up where he couldn’t make bail but was released when the charges were eventually dropped.

It seems Akon’s “street cred” is all a lie, but in the world of hip hop is that really news. Hopefully we eventually get to a point where an artist’s talent counts for more than his or her background legend.

If you want to know the real deal with Akon, read all about it.

BUSTED!!! or not...depending on how you look at it. Thats one less mark on his mystique-meter, but at least he still has that nasally voice. yay.
