Neon Noise: Santogold, Stones, LCD (MP3s)

Santogold CDSantogold pic

In a few months from now, everyone will be saying they were digging Santogold a year ago. I actually was (well, at least since last spring when I first heard her on Mark Ronson's disc, then heard "Les Artistes" and caught her live at LA's Neigborhood Fest). Lazy apes are calling her the "American M.I.A." and I don't think it fits. Yeah, she's caramel colored and rhymes too, but she's got her own thing going down, and every track I've heard from her sounds different from the last. She must be doing something right if Miller Lite & "Grey's Anatomy" are already dropping her joints on the boob tube. Catch her wowing the sweaty throngs at Coachella on April 25th, then Conan O'Brien on April 28th, and dropping her debut CD the next day. I picked this track 'cuz it's so slinky and sexy and slithery. Yeah, I said slithery.

The Floor Is Made Of Lava - Do Your Sister (Tabu) (mp3)

I discovered these cats online, and aside from having the bitchinest band name I've heard all year, this Copenhagen trio bring the danceable indie electrojunk like nobody's bizness. And there's something about singer Thobay K's voice that just sucks me in, along with some damn infectious melodies and tight playing. Apparently this has been kicking around since 2006 but it stills sounds pretty fuzzy 'n fresh to me. It comes from their "All Juice, No Fruit" EP. Drink it up heartily (but don't burn your feet).

:: BONUS REMIX ::

The Floor Is Made Of Lava - Vice (St. Pauli remix) (mp3)

Hamburg/Paris remixers St. Pauli bring pure fire. The intro is long but once the tough guitars and synthy squelch kicks in, you won't be sitting down. These guys are clearly horny. I love any band that drops an occasional f-bomb and name checks "Old Spice."

And is that lyric really "You taste like toast in a jumpsuit" ?

The Rolling Stones - You Can't Always Get What You Want
(Soulwax remix) (mp3)

The Glimmer Twins are getting buzz about the new "Shine A Light" concert film, so let's give a listen to how those knob-twisting Soulwax dudes would imagine they'd sound with a 2K's makeover. This actually comes from another flick, the card-sharking "21" featuring Kevin Spacey. Don't gasp, but this track was originally released a whopping 39 years ago! Luckily, the remix is faithful to that but with a fresh coat of tweaked paint.

Speaking of "21" (which is surprising everyone with its popularity at the box-office), the entire soundtrack is pretty tasty. And it features a new track from LCD Soundsystem, so let's get to it. James Murphy gives us a chugging, uptempo stormer of handclaps, some nice angular guitar work, a swanky bassline, a psychedelic chorus, and some overtime on the frenetic drumming. In other words, just about a damn near perfect LCD jam.
