Alicia Keys Is Right, So Is Badu

Posted Monday, April 14, 2008 @ 11:19 in Beat Reporter by Brandon Perkins

So a few people seem to be mad at Alicia Keys, or at least confused by her comments. Even as Ice Cube's "Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It" still gets spin in my iPod, Keys has perplexed everyone over these words: "Gangsta rap was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other." I think the only part of that statement is the implication that gangsta rap was created for the purpose, when in fact (or Internet conspiracy), it is probably just perpetuated in mainstream society to convince black people to kill each other. Maybe. Above, Jay Smooth vlogs his take on Keys' thoughts. Below, Erykah Badu cooks up some words of wisdom to aspiring female artists.

Proppers to NahRight and The Daily Swarm, respectively.
